This policy explains how Off The Mains (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal information when you visit offthemains.co.uk. Off The Mains is run by Andrew Cliff, who is the data controller for this website. You can contact us at hello@offthemains.co.uk.
What we collect
- Messages you send us: if you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, we store your name, email address, comment and IP address. Your email address is never published.
- Email newsletter: if you sign up, we keep your email address to send you what you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Analytics: with your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as pages viewed and approximate location. This doesn’t identify you by name.
- Affiliate links: when you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie to record that you came from us. Their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.
Why we use it
- Replying to you and managing comments: our legitimate interests in running the site.
- Analytics and affiliate cookies: your consent, given through our cookie banner.
- Newsletter: your consent.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We use trusted providers to run the site, including our web host (Namecheap), Google (analytics) and Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces on our pages and receives your IP address when a page loads. Affiliate partners such as Amazon, Awin, TradeTracker and CJ Affiliate receive click information when you use our links. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, with appropriate safeguards in place.
How long we keep it
- Emails: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than two years.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
- Analytics data: 14 months.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email hello@offthemains.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
